Natural Dye – Buddleja

The first dabble with natural dye was using Buddleja, there’s so much available during the summer which makes it super easy to get started. The process took over a month from gathering the flowers (20ish), preparing the material using a mordant, and the various stages of extracting the dye and then washing the material. I followed advice and steps from a beautiful book called Seasonal Plant Dyes by Alicia Hall. The results were amazing, the vivid purple plant produces such a gorgeous yellow hue in dye.
