⠀ Hello folks, how are you doing? I hope that you and your loved ones are keeping healthy in these unusual times. Today is spring equinox and I had planned to send the second edition of Under The Canvas, our monthly supplement on seasonal stories. I had written the majority of it before the world shifted so dramatically and the content doesn’t feel very true to how I’m feeling right now. So it’s on pause for the time being. ⠀ ⠀ My attention has also been drawn back to the core of our business, events. What a week it’s been. Let’s all take a big breath and an even bigger exhale. I think it’s safe to say that everyone of us is feeling the weight and impact of the virus on our lives and work. I’ve spent the past few days speaking with venues and the wonderful couples who are due to get married this summer. We are all in this together, it’s beyond our control, and we all have a social responsibility to reduce the spread of the virus. ⠀ ⠀ This crisis will have a huge impact on our society. Many seasonal businesses, traders and venues are at risk of losing an income, possibly for a year. Many events have moved to 2021 where we will deliver the same service, just a little later than planned. We are continuing to monitor government advice daily and assessing things as we go. ⠀ ⠀ Thank-you to everyone I’ve spoken to this week, your support means everything, as a small business navigating this isn't easy, but I believe with compassion, kindness and community we can all come through the over side with a smile. ⠀ ⠀ Sending so much love to all the other independents out there trying to make their way, those who have lost their jobs or are facing this, and most importantly to all the NHS and key workers who are doing everything to keep us well and safe. I love how in the moment toddlers are. They don’t carry grudges. Tears and feet stamping are soon followed by a sudden outburst of laughter. In truth, I’m often at a loss to what caused either reaction 🤷‍♀️ ⠀ I’m learning that big emotions come crashing in like a wave, arriving with full force and temporarily submerging Indy (and myself) into a sea of feelings. When she resurfaces, we ALL take a deep breath, and within moments it’s passed and those intense feelings melt away. Gone. Just like that. I like this about small people. We adults could learn a lot. They have mastered the letting it go thing that the rest of us are catching up on. ⠀ This past week I had a real compulsion to re-organise everything around the house. Cupboards, toys and clothes. I picked up this shelf second hand for a tenner and I’m using it to display Indy’s toys so she can go select what she wants to play with. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to flex my writing muscles and get a little creative so I’ve started a new project. It’s called Under The Canvas (working title for now) and it’s a monthly supplement centred around seasonal stories, books, podcasts and other monthly musings. There may be the odd mention of tents but it won’t be an outlet for tent related news. ⠀ ⠀ We live in Gloucestershire, nestled at the bottom of a thriving valley, surrounded by breathtaking countryside that provides so much inspiration. I’d like to share stories with you from our corner of the world, together with seasonal things to do.⠀ ⠀ In total truth, I’m not exactly sure what shape it will take just yet. It’s work in progress, but the project gives me that tingly feeling, and that’s enough to tell me to go with it and follow the flow. ⠀ If you’d like to join me on this adventure, please sign up as a subscriber (link in bio) and I’ll be sending the first one soon. Tristan and Indy went for a sleepover at nanny and grandads last night, giving me a WHOLE day and night entirely to myself. Can I get a whoop whoop. As well as having a date with a book, bath and bed, I also spent time planning and thinking creatively about Lulubells. ⠀ ⠀ It’s funny how the universe shows us what we need, when we take time to look and listen. I recently won a spot on 28 Moon Mornings workshop with Merilyn @mylkymoonlab , and wow. It’s amazing! We are following the moon cycle daily, tuning into our energy and aligning our bodies with what’s happening in the universe. It’s kind of like checking in with the cosmic weather before starting the day. Pretty cool. ⠀ ⠀ I hadn’t realised the significance of this weekend when we organised, and now it feels like a beautiful coincidence. Today is Imbolc, a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of spring, and halfway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox. This is when new life stirs, gently waking up after a long dormant winter. A time of growth and letting go. ⠀ ⠀ Morris and I took a walk through Slad valley yesterday and certainly felt a spring in our step. In the woods, swathes of snowdrops danced in the wind and twinkly sunlight, a reminder of new beginnings ahead. BIG thank-you to everyone who has responded to the questions in stories. Linen seems to be the most popular option so far, closely followed by cotton. How are you all? I hope you are having a slow and gentle start to January. I’m all about new year, same you. With maybe, like, a couple of small tweaks 😂 I’d like to do more of the things that give me that full-up feeling, and I don’t mean physically, I gobbled enough food over the holidays, more metaphorically speaking, with love, warmth and goodness. You know the kind. ⠀ ⠀ I do like a fresh start though. I’d say I prefer the back to school vibes in autumn, although January always gives an opportunity to reflect on the year ahead. Have you come up with your word for the year? You know, one word that encapsulates your intention or feeling. My word is nurture. I’m not too sure where this idea started, I’ve used it for a couple years. I’m going to nurture my business, family life and hobbies. I have a tendency to go full pelt, with this in mind I’m keeping it simple, making small moments of time for each, at an easy going pace so the balance is all in check (hopefully!) ⠀ News from us. Lucille and I get together every Tuesday, after five years of doing this solo, it’s SO nice to have someone to chat things through. I do like a chat. ⠀ We are connecting with couples who have booked us for 2020, and slowly beginning to work on some new projects.⠀ ⠀ The Prop Cupboard has now been added to our website. We have a collection of accessories available to hire, this has been on my to-do forever, so v happy to finally share with you. The collection isn’t just a summer thing, it’s available throughout the seasons, for all weddings and events. Check stories for more details on items. What a week. How’s everyone doing? The election hangover fog is slowly lifting, very S-L-O-W-L-Y. ⠀ ⠀ We officially welcomed the wonderful Lucille into the fold this month. Lucille has worked with us on and off over the past couple of years, mostly in the field, and now she’s back, this time all year round, working alongside me to create wonderful experiences for our glampers, and to help run the day-to-day. She’s truly the best! I’m very glad the universe brought us together :) ⠀ ⠀ When we sat down on Tuesday we ended up discussing the events of this past week, trying to make sense of it all. The conversations I’m seeing on here, and having in person are centred around what can be done in our community, if the political system isn’t prioritising or safeguarding people or the planet.⠀ ⠀ 280K homeless this Christmas, up 39%, highest in 12 years. We provide luxury accommodation for parties and celebrations, and I’m conscious of those in need of shelter for survival. ⠀ We are going to set up a contribution, so that if you glamp with us, we in turn give back to a charity that support those in need of a bed for the night, and to hopefully find longer term solutions. ⠀ ⠀ I’m looking at charities and will share with you when I know exactly what we can do. Red or green. That’s the question in Stroud. A conversation between head and heart. Vote tactically to keep the tories out and stop austerity. Or vote for what best represents you, and try to make a change, longer term. If we all continue to vote for either of the two main parties, then how do the smaller parties gain momentum. (If someone could make proportional representation happen, that would be great 👍) I’d like for greens to get another MP, but in Stroud, that likely means splitting the vote on the left and indirectly the conservative candidate will get the seat. ⠀ Labours manifesto is exciting. Why can’t we have a fairer, greener society, where we look after each other and respect the planet. Community over individualism 👊 Don’t forget to register to vote if you haven’t yet people. #registertovote

Twelve months of Indy Moon. A determined and curious soul, who moves through the world at her own pace as we look on in amazement. Crawling at 6months. Walking at 11months. Always chatting. Loudly. She is very loud (I don’t know where she gets it from). She has inherited my people watching skills, so much so that she often peers around the pram to get a better look. As well as being nosey and noisy, she’s also very strong. I mean actual physical strength. A little powerhouse. Bell tenter in the making 😂⠀ She likes to find new homes for things. Today I found a shoe in the cupboard and a wooden block in the washing machine. She carries a bag around filling it up and emptying it, again and again. Dragging it along the floor behind her as she toddles around. She seemingly gets endless joy from this activity. ⠀ She likes to feed herself, with her hands. Why use a spoon. It only slows the eating process down 😂 Aside from food, her great love is Morris, she laughs so hard when she sees him, and charges towards him shrieking with excitement. He’s less enthusiastic about this, as you can imagine. ⠀ I love being her mum. ⠀ Happy 1st birthday Indy, you beautiful soul and a big thank you to all our family for celebrating with us. It takes a village 💛
